Most people think of perfumes, bath oils and sweet smelling sachets when they hear the word aromatherapy. In fact aromatherapy is a very ancient healing art and in France is known as aromatic medicine. The word aromatherapy literally means "treatment using scents". Aromatherapy is a truly holistic therapy, a branch of herbal medicine that uses concentrated plant oils called essential oils to improve physical and emotional health and to restore balance to the whole person. Like most holistic therapies it is subtle but effective when used correctly and given time to work. Aromatherapy has been shown to be particularly effective in preventing and treating stress and anxiety-related disorders, muscular and rheumatic pains. digestive problems, menstrual regularities, menopausal complaints, insomnia and depression to name a few!
Essential oils are extracted from trees, fruit, flowers, herbs and spices usually by distillation. These oils, as a rule, are not taken internally but are either inhaled or applied to the skin. Since the essential oil molecules are very small and the vital frequency of the oils is very high they are quickly absorbed into the body and once in the bloodstream start to work immediately on restoring balance. In some cases the essential oils can penetrate and spread through the body in as little as twenty minutes.
All essential oils are antiseptic but each also has individual properties, for example they may be analgesic (pain killer), fungicidal, diuretic or expectorant (clears mucus or phlegm). Within the body the oils react with the body chemistry in a way that is similar to drugs but slower, more synergistically and therefore with fewer side-effects. Despite considerable research, the chemistry of essential oils is not fully understood. The aroma of an essential oil is an important aspect of its effectiveness. It is thought that the absorption of the oils through receptors in the nose triggers electrical impulses in the limbic system of the brain. Emotions and feelings such as wrath, fright, passion, love, hate, joy and sadness originate in the limbic system. This system is also responsible for some aspects of personal identity and for important functions related to memory. Scents that reach the limbic system can directly affect our moods and emotions and also increase our mental clarity and ability to focus.
I have used a particular line of essential plant oil blends in my practice for the past five years with great success. Shortly after I first started buying these amazing essential oil blends I experienced first hand how remarkably effective they are. One night, right before I went to bed I was feeling heavy headed with the beginnings of a sore throat and just on the verge of getting that achy all over feeling. I knew that I was right on the verge of developing something nasty! I remembered that I had some inventory at home and immediately checked to see what I had. Fortunately I had some Immunity Plus which is blended to stimulate the immune system. I put it on all over me like a body lotion. When I woke up the next day I was amazed at how much better I felt. So I continued to use it every day as a body lotion. Whatever it was that was trying to manifest (cold or flu?) never did!
These essential oil blends are now available from my website www.lightbodies.com/products.html and of course at my office. In addition to the Immunity Plus, there is MobilFlex (topical pain relief for sore muscles and joints) New Skin (restores life to damaged skin) VVR+ (shrinks varicose veins & alleviates the pain), FaceLift Plus, FPP & FIE (this trio diminishes wrinkles, reduces neck crepiness, softens skin & will give you a more youthful appearance), Forever Hair, Shampoo and Conditioner (this trio reduces further hair loss & increases hair growth), etc.
